THE SCHOOL
Many changes have occurred since the Franciscan takeover of San José School
in 1920, but our goal has remained the same: to provide the
students with a real education for each student's life, by putting our efforts
not only on the official learning curriculum but also on good values that
contribute to a comprehensive development of our students .
Currently, about 300 pupils from ages 3 to 16 take part
in our educational project, which includes several
projects related to environmental awareness, healthy
habits, sporting promotion, etc. This commitment has
brought our School the recognition as "First Spanish
School for Mediterranean Diet" in Spain.
The Mediterranean diet is a modern nutritional
recommendation inspired by the traditional dietary
patterns of Italy, Greece, Spain and Morocco. It consists
mainly of a high consumption of olive oil , legumes,
unrefined cereals, fruits and vegetables;
a moderate consumption of dairy products (mostly cheese and yogurt) and fish; and finally a low consumption of meat and some wine. So it is only natural that we partake in the Comenius Project To be or not to be obese.
SORIA
Our school San José is located in Soria, a small town
in Castilla y León, Spain. It is home to several
outstanding natural spaces, including the Sierra de
Urbión mountains, the Laguna Negra lake, and the
Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Reserve.
Soria has a rich historical and artistic heritage
going as far back as the Paleolithic Era. It is also worth
mentioning some well known archaelogical sites such
as Ambrona, Numancia and Tiermes. Romanesque
architecture is also well represented in the temples of San Miguel in San Esteban de Gormaz, Santa María Cathedral in Burgo de Osma, Santo Domingo in Soria or San Juan de Duero.
We Sorians take much pride in our local gastronomy.
Pork, kid and lamb are prepared in many delicious ways.
High quality butter is another of our typical products. And
let's not forget about our mushrooms, from a clean and
prolific woodlands. Finally, on the Duero river bank
grow and ripen the grapevines from which the renowned
Rivera de Duero wine is obtained.
